Welcome to Saturdays with Sizzix!! This week a simply subtle, dainty and delicate scrapbook page featuring the Swirly Decorative Strip and Sparkle Sizzlits die in honor of our little girl was created.
The techniques used to create this page include layering, stamping and journaling. The items used to create this page are listed in the table below. The finished page will display two, 3-1/2" x 5-1/2" photos and an area for journaling.

You can click on the image of the page for a larger image. I must say that this page is absolutely beautiful in person, but very hard to view the subtleties of the page.
Two begin, the piece of the Bella Rosa Designer Series Paper (DS) was torn using a Friskas tearing edge, as shown below.
The paper shown on the left in the image above, was flipped over to reveal the poke-a-dots. In the picture to the right the poke-a-dotted DS paper is aligned as desired under the pink DS paper. Once the desired overlap was obtained the poke-a-dotted DS paper was trimmed and glued to the back of the pick DS paper.
The finished strips of DS paper were then adhered to side of another piece of Bella Rose DS paper resulting in the layout shown below.
Three die cuts were than created using the Swirly Decorative Strip Die.
The Very Vanilla and Pick Pirouette die cuts were laid on top of each other and added to the left side of the page over the torn pieces of paper previously added. The remaining die cut was saved for latter.
From the remaining pieces of Pink Pirouette card stock that was stamped using the Riding Hood Red and Canvas background stamp, three Sparkle die cuts were created and saved for later.
To add adhesive to the die cuts, the Xyron 150 create-a-sticker was created. The picture below shows how the adhesive was added to the Swirly die cuts. Click here for a post explaining how to use the create-a-sticker.
Once the adhesive was added to the die cuts the mounts for the two photos and the journal area were created. The photo mounts were created with two piece 4-1/2" x 6-1/2" of Pink Pirouette DS paper and two pieces of 4" x 6" piece of Pink Pirouette card stock. The corners of each piece of paper or card stock were rounded with a corner edge punch. The smaller piece of card stock was glued on top of the larger piece of DS paper. A 3-1/2" x 5-1/2" photo with rounded corners can be mounted on top of each photo mount. The photos that this page is intended for were not available when the page was created.
To create the journal area, three pieces of paper were used. They are listed below.
The top of the pages were punched with the spiral punch to create the torn from a note book effect. The bottom of the paper were torn using the Friskas wave Tearing edge.
I like to use vellum when journaling, as you can place it over a piece of lined paper and write on it. This helps to keep the writing even as if you were writing on lined paper.
Now that the pieces are all ready, they were assembled the order below to create the finished page.
This page can be further embellished using the Styled Vanilla Hodgepodge hardware (PN 112454) or a clip from the Clips Assortment (PN 112580) on the journal portion.

We are home and doing well. Thank you so much for all the support. Our little one is healthier and happier than ever.
We are all so thankful to the medical staff at Children's Hospital in Boston for their incredible care. We would not have Samantha if it wasn't for their amazing care that she has received from those in the NICU, MSICU and all the other disciplines that care for her between admissions.
Here's hoping for an illness free winter!

This Saturday with Sizzix started with a heap of scraps, a Sizzix die and some fall snapshots from last year. Do you sense a scrapbook page layout coming? :)
Lets start with the scraps. I'm a pack rat. I save almost every scrap from anything I make. Why? Because Stampin' Up! colors always go together. That means that you can always use a scrap piece of card stock or designer series paper on your Stampin' Up! projects. Scraps are perfect of small die cuts!
Please let me indulge you on a little secret. I was a Sizzix junky before I feel in love with the Stampin' Up! products. When I attended my first Stampin' Up! workshop, I knew that becoming a Stampin' Up! demonstrator was for me. Why? Because all of the papers match! The colors easily coordinate with one another. (Are the wheels in you head turning? Well, mine were.) I can't tell you how much time and money that I wasted buying paper on sale or from various stores only to find that I could only use it for one project. Now that I only use Stampin' Up! paper and products I never waste a single scrap of paper, ribbon or even a drop of ink. Since the colors all coordinate, I can always use the scraps on another project. This is great for a pack rat like me! (Okay....Back to this weeks project.)
The picture below shows the heap of colorful fall scraps that were pulled from my scrap bin, the Leaves #2 die (PN 113459) and the pile of leaves (die cuts) created from my scraps.
The leaves looked so pretty that the pile almost begged to be molded into a wreath. With a Sheet of 12" x 12" Chocolate Chip card stock as a background, the leaves were arranged into the wreath shown.
Unfortunately, this wasn't going to work for the pictures that were selected. Perhaps the final layout didn't either, but my son and I had a lot of fun making it.
The final pages that we created using some of the leaves is shown below. We had fun picking from my stash of Stampin' Up! products to add some embellishments. The table below the picture lists the items and part numbers used.

The Big Tip this week isn't as simple as save your scraps. The big tip is to stick to a a paper system, so that you CAN use your scraps. I've selected Stampin' Up! paper because of the quality and selection. I save a lot of money in the long run because I can use all my scraps. Not to mention that the markers, inks and designer series papers all coordinate and match. This saves me a lot of time and money and helps all my projects to look great.

The small details in our crafting projects can truly make the project. In general, the projects shown in this blog are meant to provide ideas. The basic concepts are explained and the details are left for you to add. After all it is the small details that give your projects individuality and truly make them your own.
One small detail that I love, but don’t see very often is decorating the insides of cards. Carrying over an element from the card front to the inside of a card can add that little extra something that people remember. It doesn't need to be elaborate, just a little something. It doesn't need to be done often.
This beautiful and whimsy card was based on a make and take created by Robin Desko, Stampin' Up! 2008 Artisan Award Winner. I like this card so much that I wanted to share it with you. The Baja Breeze, Kiwi Kiss and Chocolate Chip colors truly created a beautiful combination.
The colors worked so well together that I carried them over to the inside of this card to create an area for writing sentiments.
This addition to the inside of the card carries over the colors from the front as well as a stamped element. Often times, a stamped element from the front can be added to provide a nice touch.
If you have never added details to the inside of your cards, go ahead give it a try. You just might like it!!

Today's Saturdays with Sizzix is jam packed with ideas for No-Pennant ideas using the Pennant Bigz XL Die (PN 113483) , an exclusive Stampin' Up! Die for the Big Shot (Sizzix). Make sure to read the text for additional ideas and tips.
This cute little tree can be used as a centerpiece for a holiday party or dinner. If you chose, you can omit the string and stack cookies in the corners of the tree and wrap in plastic for adorable holiday gifts. Without the brown circular base, this little tree can also be used as a holiday card. As you follow this easy tutorial, I am sure other ideas will present themselves.

To begin, take 2 pieces of 8.5" x 11" piece of card stock on top of each other. Fold the pieces of paper in half to yield to folded pieces that are 4.25" x 11". You can use a Scor-It tool, Score-Pal or paper cutter with a score blade to create a nice fold. Click her for a post on perfect folds. Below is a picture of the Scor-It tool being used to score the paper before folding.
Once the card stock sheets are folded in half, align the folds with the top and bottom of the pennant triangles die as shown in the picture to the right.
The picture below shows the die sandwich.
Tip: If you find that the card stock is not staying in place when you place the top die plate on the sandwich, use a small piece of tape to keep the card stock in place.
Run the die sandwich through the Big Shot. This will yield 2 pieces of die cuts. You will need to repeat this again to obtain the 4 die cuts needed for each tree. The small or large die cut pennant die can be used depending on the size tree desired.
To assemble the tree, use sticky strip on half of the back of one of the pennants as shown in the picture below.
Align the scalloped edges, remove the sticky strip protective cover strip and adhere two of the triangle pennants together as shown below. Fold the bottom of the pennant up to help stabilize the base of the tree.
Apply sticky strip to the back of the assembled pennants as shown below.
To ensure proper alignment with the scalloped edges, the remaining pennants are attached one at a time. The picture below shows the 3rd pennant attached to the assembled pennants above. After the pennant is attached, fold the bottom of the pennant up to help stabilize the base of the tree.
Using sticky strip, attache the last pennant and fold the bottom of the pennant up to help stabilize the base of the tree.
If the tree is going to be used as a card, you can trim along the perforations at the bottom. The picture points out the perforations which need to be trimmed.
While we are discussing the card, here is a picture of the little pennant card.
It used 2 sheets of 8-1/2" x 11 card stock which were cut into four pieces of 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" card stock which were folded in half to create four 5-1/2" x 4-1/4" cards. These cards were then aligned on the pennant die two at a time to cut the small pennants which were glued together to create the card shown above. This cards folds nicely to fit into a small envelope. If you prefer you can use it to add a little flare to your gift wrapping.
Getting back to the larger tree...To create the base, cut a 7.5" diameter circle from Chocolate Chip Card Stock.
Cut the circle into 4 equal parts, by cutting it in half and then in half again. Glue these circle quarters to the folded bases on the pennant tree. Your tree will look like this when complete.
After the base was completed, 1/8" holes were punched in each of the scalloped edges.
Idea: Wouldn't this make a great base for stacking Christmas Cookies? Once the cookies are stacked, the entire package could be wrapped in pretty cellophane wrapping and decorated with ribbon. The cookies could then be unwrapped and displayed on the table in this little tree cookie stand at holiday gathering.
To decorate this little tree, Red Help Twine (PN 102875) and items from the Pretties Kit (109114) were used to create the tree below.
Now, I bet you were wondering what to do with all those little left over flowers that you created. These little flowers could easily be turned into ornaments for a Christmas tree or used to create little table signs for seating arrangements at a large formal party or as labels for foods at a buffet or dessert table.
To make the little ornaments shown below, you will need 4 of the flowers from the Pennant Die. They are assembled in exactly the same method as the tree was.
If you would like to use these as a table sign, you only need to glue two adjoining sides of the ornament above to a small piece of card stock to create the table card below.

I'd like to thank everyone for continuing to check the blog even though there have been no new postings. The good news is that we're back! We will be back to normal within a few days.
Saturday with Sizzix will be posted by Monday. It will be worth the wait. I will need to warn you, if you haven't bought the pennant die you will now! Yes! This post will contain a 3D project with multiple uses, another simple card idea and cute little idea for those left over flowers.
Again, thank you for your patience. For those who have read the recent BluePrints post, we did have some complications. Everyone is home, now and resting comfortably. Our daughter will be fine in a week or so, thank god we were at the best hospital in the world for our little girl. After the trach removal, she came down with pneumonia. She is a lovely, little fighter who will be better than ever with some tender loving care.

Welcome to Week# 10. Wow! 10 weeks of layouts. We should be celebrating!
We (My husband and I) are celebrating, just something a little more exciting than 10 weeks of layouts. This weeks layout challenge celebrates my little girl. At the time this post is published we, my daughter and I, will be at the hospital for her trach removal. YES! After 2 + years, she is getting it out. We are all very excited for her. Please send us some prayers our way. I don't normally get into much details about family, but this is a very special occasion for us. I wanted to share it with you all as I have come to know many of you as friends (LOL - Lots of Love).
Since my little girl has found a new love for flowers, particularly the patch of Black-Eyed Susan's in my garden, Black-Eyed Susan's are the inspiration for these layouts.
Idea for making the flowers: The flowers can be made by cutting or ripping 7 hearts from yellow paper. I like the idea of the petals being translucent, so yellow dyed vellum was what I was thinking of when I created the layouts below. These hearts can then be arranged in a circle and a black button used for the middle.
Potential Background: The Grass from the Inspired by Nature stamp set (PN 111656) from Stampin' Up! would make a nice background for the scrapbook page.
