My little guy is always the star of my life, so he just had to be put into film, well a film strip that is. :)
What did I use?
- Stampin' Up! Spiral Punch (PN 108341, $10.95)
- 1 Sheet of 12" x 12" Black
- 1 Sheet of 12" x 12" Blush Blossom Card Stock
- The Paper Cutter (PN 104152, $24.95)
- Anchored Rub-Ons (PN 110282, $10.95)
- Sizzix "Monkey Tails" Alphabet for "A Star is Born"
Instructions
Step 1 - Cutting the 3 window panes for the filmstrip.
Three - 5" x 3" rectangles were cut evenly across a 12" x 7" strip of black card stock to create the windows in the filmstrip. The actual photos are 4" x 6". A 3" x 5" window size was selected based on the desired portion of the image displayed on the page. If you want to modify the window size in filmstrip in anyway, the lay-out and equations are provided below.
For clarity, Blush Blossom card stock was used for the Step 1 illustrations instead of Black used in the actual scrapbook page.
Width:
Width = A+B+A+B+A+B+A = 12"
4A + 3B = 12
For this example, B = 3.
4A + 3x3 = 12
4A = 12-3x3 = 12-9 = 3
4A = 3 so A = 3/4"
.
Length:
Length = C+D+C = 7"
2C + D = 7
For this example, D = 5".
2C = 7 - 5 = 2
C = 1
Using the paper cutter and a 12" x 7 " piece of black card stock cut from a 12" x 12" piece. Guidelines were drawn at 1" and 6" along the width and 3/4", 3-3/4", 4-1/4", 7-1/2", 8-1/4" and 11-1/4".
When cutting the window panes, cut them out one at a time. Start in the upper left corner by the number 1 and work counter-clockwise as shown BELOW.
Cut from 1 to 2, using the intersection of the lines as a starting and stop points. The alignment arrows on the cutter show exactly were to start and stop as the will align with the int ersecting line.
Once the first line is cut, turn the paper counter-clockwise 90° to begin the second cut from point 2 to point 3. Again, turn the paper counter-clockwise 90° to begin the second cut from point 3 to point 4. When this 3rd line is cut, turn the paper counter-clockwise 90°, one last time to cut from point 4 to point 1. Repeat these instructions for the second and third window.
Step 2: Creating the sprocket-holes on the filmstrip.
Using the Spiral Punch (PN 108341, $10.95), edges like those from a ripped out piece of paper in a spiral notebook were created along the top and bottom of the filmstrip. The Spiral Punch has an alignment edge so that an indefinite length of spiral punches can be made.
Place the pictures into the windows as desired and tape the top only the top edge of the photo. This will prevent the photos from buckling as the expanded and contract during various weather conditions.
Apply adhesive to the back of the filmstrip assembly, then flip it over and secure the filmstrip to the 12" x 12" piece of Blush Blossom card stock.
Cut two 1/4" x 12" strips of Black card stock from the remaining piece of black card stock. Cover the outer opening of the spiral punched edges with the Black 1/4" strips to create the sprocket holes for the filmstrip. Trim the edges as needed.
Finally, Anchored Rub-Ons (PN 110282, $10.95) were used to embellish the page. The "Monkey Tails" die set from Sizzix was used to create the words "A Star is Born".
